About the home page...

So that you can start using NewsUK straight away, we've put a Search news box on the home page:

1. Type what you want to look for in the search box.
2. Click the Search button.
3. A List of Results page will appear listing the news articles that match your search terms.

Note: the Search news feature searches all articles in NewsUK published within the last 3-9 months. Use the Advanced Search page to search for older articles or restrict your search to a particular newspaper or magazine.

We've grouped all the links that let you access or search the content of the service on this page, too.

There is also a Search news box available at the top of the List of Results, View Issue, Regional News and News Topic pages.

How do I search for words that are related in meaning or spelling?

When you do a search from the Home page, NewsUK will automatically search for words that are similar in meaning or spelling to your search terms. For example, typing in 'color' will retrieve instances of the word 'colour' as well as instances of the word 'color'. Similarly, typing in 'farmer' will also retrieve instances of the words 'farming', 'farm' etc.

Tip: If you would like to find words that can sometimes have an apostrophe and sometimes not eg womens and women’s, search using truncation – entering women* in the search box will find both.

What else is available from the Home page?

As well as being able to search NewsUK from the Home page, we have also included a set of links that allow you to access NewsUK content in a variety of useful ways:

• Advanced Search: This page gives you more control over your searches - for example, you can restrict your search to particular newspapers or magazines.
• View Issue: you can browse the articles included in a particular issue of your chosen newspaper or magazine.
• Regional News: lists news Web sites for each geographical region of the United Kingdom.
• News Topics: gathers together key articles and other resources relating to contemporary issues such as terrorism or global warming.
• About NewsUK: this area contains information about the service, what it contains, what it can help you do and so on.
• RSS feeds
• RSS icon: view the RSS feed and add the link to your own reader
• About RSS feeds: this area contains information about the service, what it contains and how you can subscribe to it
• User Resources: contains general information and links to resources for subscribers.
• My Archive: allows you to create a personal archive of saved records and searches, and to register for email alerts.

If your library is also subscribed to KnowUK an additional link will appear on the Home page allowing you to go directly to KnowUK for comprehensive reference information on the UK.
